Below you may find the most famous traditional products which are produced on our island with a short description for each.

HALLOUMI CHEESE

The delightful and renowned Halloumi is a semi-hard white cheese made mainly of a mixture of cow and sheep and goat milk and can be eaten fresh, either grated in pasta or grilled and fried.

ANARI CHEESE

Anari cheese is produced from a waterpump drained during the production of the haloumi. To this is added goat or sheep’s milk and mixed. After production it can be consumed either fresh or in dry form in pasta.

YOGHURT

Yoghurt is a creamy food which is produced from fermented milk. It is produced from cow, sheep and buffalo milk. It can be combined with fruit, honey, cereals and food.

ARIANI

Ariani or Airani is a cold yogurt drink with cold water and usually salt. It is prepared by mixing the ingredients and is also available on the market as a packaged beverage.

HONEY

Honey is sweet material coming from the nectar of the plants that bees gather. It can be combined with pasta, yogurt and fruit.

VIRGIN OLIVE OIL

Το ελαιόλαδο είναι το λάδι που προέρχεται από τους καρπούς της ελιάς. Είναι βασικό στοιχείο της μεσογειακής διατροφής και χαρίζει στο φαγητό μια ξεχωριστή απόλαυση.

FLAOUNA

Flaouna is a traditional symbol, connected with various Easter customs and is offered as a treat. It can be consumed hot or cold and it may be accompanied by various beverages.

CYPRUS WINE

Wine is a popular alcoholic beverage, a product of grape fermentation.

LIQUEUR

The liqueur is alcoholic beverage which is made by distilling alcohol by adding flavour of fruits, flowers, herbs etc. and also includes sugar or sweetener.

ZIVANIA

Zivania is a colourless spirit with a light berry flavour. It is a traditional Cypriot distillate that is produced on our island by grape marc.

CYPRUS SEFTALIA

Seftalia is one of the most favourite and famous Cypriot dishes. It consists mainly of a mixture of pork, onion, parsley, cinnamon and a mixture of cumin, salt and black pepper. It is on the list of the most delicious dishes on our island.

CYPRIOT SAUSAGES

The sausage is a pork or beef food product and has a cylindrical shape. It is mainly baked in the grill or in the oven.

ZALATINA

Zalatina is made mainly from the head and feet of the pig. Combined with various spices, it becomes a great starter for your table.

RODOSTAGMA or RODONERO

The rosary or rose water is an aromatic water that is made by dipping rose petals into the water. It is used to flavour food as well as an ingredient in some cosmetics and also many people use it to clean their face after waking up.

KEFIR

Kefir is a beverage produced from any type of fermented milk and kefir seeds which is the indispensable raw material.

TRADITIONAL CYPRUS SWEETS

Sweets can be made with almost all seasonal fruit. It is a very enjoyable custom found in almost every home on our island. The list of the most famous and delicious sweets is the following, cherry, walnut, watermelon, orange and quince.
